[HWPL] Peace Tours of Man-hee Lee (49): Chairman Lee's Peace Work Recognized by the United States. Peace Achievement Award Given at Manhattan, New York
Man Hee Lee, Chairman of ShincheonjiChurch (its full name, Shincheonji, Church of Jesus, the Temple of the Tabernacle of the Testimony), was one of the most talked-about people in 2020. While leading a church, he also serves as the chairman of HWPL (Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light). HWPL isa UN-affiliated peace NGO that made life-risking trips and struck a private-level peace agreement in Mindanao, Philippines, a region that suffered a bloody conflict that lasted four decades, killing 120,000 people. A Korean War veteran, Lee’s peace activities are noted to have inspired minds globally that “Peace and cessation or war can be done,” while underrated at home due to preconceived bias. This series covers records of peace activities that won international recognition for innovative strategy and the level of execution and recaptures Man Hee Lee’s path of peace.

The seeds of peace sown around the world by Man-Hee Lee, Chairman of Heavenly Culture World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL), are bearing fruit one by one.
In particular, during the 25th peace tour, which was held from April 29 to May 10, 2017, Chairman Lee received the Peace Achievement Award from the California government, Manhattan, and Brooklyn, New York, promoting the establishment of an international law for cessation of war and promoting peace through the WARP Office. He was recognized for his contribution to peace between religions.
On May 1, 2017, Chairman Lee, who attended the HWPL religious leaders meeting 'Peace Development Conference: WE ARE ONE' held in Long Beach, California, emphasized that 80% of wars are caused by religious conflicts in the world. He emphasized the importance of dialogue between religious people to resolve conflicts between religions and achieve world peace.
The meeting was attended by about 1,000 people from Sikhism, Islam, Caodai, Catholicism, Protestantism, Buddhism, politics, society, and women. Participants agreed with Chairman Lee's proposal that religions should unite by selecting the most reliable scriptures through comparison of scriptures, and pledged to lead the realization of peace together.
The state government of California presented Chairman Lee with the Peace Achievement Award, paying tribute to his dedication for realization of the world peace.
On May 6, 2017 at the Pennsylvania Hotel in New York, USA, at the meeting of leaders from all walks of life and religion, “Peace be with you-Unity through diversity,” the Yemeni American Association presented Chairman Lee with a plaque of appreciation for his contributions to peace.
Fath Naji Alaya, president of the Yemeni American Association of New York, Nabil Ahmad Al-Jamay, vice president, and Eric Adams, mayor of the Brooklyn Borough of New York, participated in the delivery of the appreciation plaque. They delivered a plaque of appreciation to Chairman Lee for his outstanding contributions in bringing peace to mankind.
In this appreciation plaque, the association said, “The president of the Yemeni American Association of New York expresses deep gratitude to Chairman Man-Hee Lee, who has made outstanding contributions in bringing peace to all mankind through HWPL. I hope success and prosperity, also wish protection of God for him"

The Yemeni American Association of New York was founded in 1892. As an association of Yemenis residing in New York, USA, it is an organization that not only serves Yemenis residing in New York based on friendship, but also engages in social, cultural, and political activities for safety and peace in their own country.
After the WARP Summit, the association continued to participate in various events such as HWPL's WARP Office. It also expressed active support for HWPL, which works for the peace that is most needed in civil war-torn Yemen.
Religious people, NGOs, university students, and peace activists who attended the meeting congratulated Chairman Lee on receiving the plaque of appreciation. Together with HWPL, they confirmed their vision for realizing world peace and promised to participate in realizing peace.
In Manhattan, New York, where the United Nations headquarters is located, consensus was formed for Chairman Lee's peace activities. William Bendon Houbel Roosevelt Freedom Park Founder (Deputy Ambassador of the U.S. Mission to the United Nations) presented Chairman Lee with the Peace Achievement Award at the ‘Commemoration of War Cessation and Peace Festival’ held at Franklin Roosevelt Freedom Park on May 8, 2017.
Regarding Chairman Lee, he explained, “With an epoch-making solution to achieve peace, he is actively leading activities by class, such as politics, the legal profession, religion, women, and youth.”
Gail A. Brewer, Representative of the Borough of Manhattan, New York, declared that March 14th, the day that ‘Declaration of Cessation of War and World Peace’ was proclaimed, is ‘HWPL Day’ of Manhattan.

On September 18, 2015, Representative Brewer drew attention by declaring “September 18” as the district’s “WARP Peace Day.”
The declaration was delivered to HWPL at the 1st anniversary ceremony of the WARP Summit held in Seoul, Korea on the same day. In the declaration written in the name of the autonomous district, it was highly appreciated that HWPL declared the anniversary of the WARP (World Alliance of Religions' Peace) on September 18, 2014, and held the WARP agreement during the September 18 WARP Summit at the 63 Building in Seoul from the 17th to 19th.

Representative Brewer explained the background of the announcement of the declaration, saying, “Support for the commemoration of the 9.18 anniversary of the WARP, which fosters cooperation between individuals, groups and countries beyond their respective religions, is growing in the city.”
He also said, “The philosophy of HWPL is to bring people of different religions into harmony centered on the concept of 'heavenly culture'. Heavenly culture values live of people to make harmony for the next generations, and also plays role for uniting humanity by love and tolerance."
