Giving Hope to Children for a Better World of Peace
– Dinner Invitation for Children Affected by the Guinea Oil Tank Explosion –
On May 24th, in the Conakry region of Guinea, a volunteer activity was conducted under the theme ‘Giving Hope to Children for a Better World of Peace,’ targeting children affected by the oil tank explosion in Guinea. This event was organized in collaboration with HWPL Global 5 Branch and Guinea GSP Antag Plus, and with the help of six volunteers from GSP Antag Plus, food was provided to a total of 2,000 students.
In the early morning of December 18, 2023, a fire broke out due to an explosion at the petroleum storage facility in the Kaloum area of Conakry, where most of the refined oil imported by Guinea, a country that imports all of its petroleum, is stored. This explosion caused various degrees of damage to nearby residents, who continue to face livelihood difficulties even after the explosion.
Issa Bah, the CEO of GSP Antag Plus, who is the first HWPL peace educator in Guinea, shared the situation in the Kaloum area with HWPL Branch 5 and co-planned a volunteer activity for children, the targets of peace education and the future of the country. They visited Soloprimo Elementary School in the affected area, introduced HWPL, and explained the purpose of the volunteer activity, providing hamburgers and drinks to about 300 students and snacks to about 1,700 students.
The students, who listened to the explanation about HWPL’s peace activities, all shouted “We are one!” together, expressing their gratitude for the helping hands that reached out during difficult times. This volunteer activity provided an opportunity for the staff and parents of Soloprimo Elementary School to experience HWPL peace education.
Issa Bah, the CEO of GSP Antag Plus, who co-hosted the event with HWPL Branch 05, said, “I believe this volunteer activity will serve as a foundation for HWPL’s peace activities in Guinea in the future.”
