[IWPG] IWPG's the 2024 International Women's Peace Conference
Chairman ManHee Lee is the head representative of the global peace organization HWPL (Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light), which is striving for the enactment and implementation of the international peace law 'Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW)'. The DPCW is a legal instrument comprised of 10 articles and 38 clauses that can end wars and hostilities throughout the world. HWPL is also spreading a culture of peace and implementing peace education.
Chairman ManHee Lee experienced the cruelty and tragedy of war as a veteran of the Korean War. This is one of the reasons why he founded a global peace campaign as the head of HWPL. He has traveled the globe more than 35 times to meet and persuade politicians, legal experts, journalists, professors, peace activists, civil organization leaders, heads of tribes and others to unite them for the work of peace. The significant fruits borne out of his hard work are the World Alliance of Religions' Peace (WARP) Summit and HWPL Peace Committee. The DPCW was drafted and finalised by the HWPL Peace Committee.
How, you may wonder, do I know this? About 10 years ago, when I had just been discharged from military service, I came to know HWPL and Chairman ManHee Lee while researching the topic of civil conflicts to satisfy my curiosity in ongoing global issues. At that time, the island of Mindanao in the Philippines was suffering from a major civil conflict that lasted more than 40 years, and Chairman ManHee Lee and HWPL resolved this conflict through non-violent means.
Chairman Lee brought an end to the conflict in Mindanao by holding a peace talk between the warring Catholic and Islamic groups. Before the talk, HWPL and Chairman ManHee Lee held a Peace Walk to spread the culture of peace in Mindanao with the many locals who had gathered out of a desire for peace.
Chairman ManHee Lee's pressing appeal today is that humanity unites for sustainable peace in order to pass on the legacy of peace to future generations worldwide. He doesn't just talk peace, but has worked tirelessly for it through practical peace campaigns for over a decade.
I decided to become a supporter of HWPL and Chairman ManHee Lee's peace initiatives because I also desire a world of peace for all posterity.
Today I'd like to introduce an article regarding IWPG's the 2024 International Women's Peace Conference :)
On September 19th, the 2024 International Women's Peace Conference, hosted by the International Women's Peace Group (IWPG), was held at Kensington Resort in Gapyeong, Gyeonggi Province. The conference featured an open mic session where participants shared their views on women's leadership on peace practices. Topics included, “Why should women engage in peace activities?” and “How can women become agents of peace?”
Women leaders from various cultural backgrounds came together in agreement that all women, regardless of status or class, can actively contribute to peace and have a positive influence on those around them. They especially emphasised that women can lead change by exercising 'Peace Leadership.'
In her opening remarks, IWPG Chairwoman Hyun-sook Yoon emphasised, “In order to achieve peace on earth, all women must become leaders of peace and must work together in solidarity.” She also urged women to think deeply about what they can do to build peace, and said that when women around the world come together as one, they can exert a powerful influence.
Ngozi Orabueze, Chief of Staff of the Biafra Cabinet, made reference to the Biafran conflict with the Nigerian government from 1967 to 1970, during which millions died and faced starvation, and said, “What was lacking was the most fundamental element—peace. We must choose dialogue over conflict and compassion over cruelty.” She continued, “I extend the hand of reconciliation to my brothers and sisters in the Nigerian federation,” and urged them to “work together for a prosperous future for all peoples without fear and oppression.” She added, “Women have played an outstanding role in building peace with their understanding, patience, and caring abilities. Women are the perfect agents for building world peace.”
Agatha Sushila Antoni Dias, founder of Amcha Ghar (Our Home), a non-profit that supports underprivileged children in India, said, “Women have traditionally been assigned a submissive role, but now with education they have the power and knowledge to protect their children and create a more peaceful future.” She highlighted the remarkable achievements she has witnessed in the global peace efforts of IWPG and HWPL over the past 7-8 years and confidently stated, “The Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW) will soon be universally accepted and implemented.”
Sarah Chong, director of Femme Solidarity from Australia, said, “Women’s participation in decision-making is not simply a matter of gender equality, but is essential to achieving sustainable peace.” Citing her experience supporting migrant and refugee women and women who are victims of domestic violence in Australia, she asserted, “Breaking the vicious cycle of war, conflict, and violence is only possible through the practice of the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW) and peace education.”
Hon. Maria Martha Lacouture, Secretary of Economic Development, Environment, and Tourism for Valledupar City in Colombia, remarked, “Women have always been at the centre of social change. They can support business development that promotes dialogue and peaceful conflict resolution while also contributing to environmental protection for sustainable peace.”
Highlighting the value of IWPG Peace Education, Sanem Arkan, Director General of the Copyright Office of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Turkey, confessed, “I have been working in various fields such as women and children’s human rights promotion, violence prevention, and drug eradication, but I have come to recognise my role in peace activities through IWPG’s peace education.”
Finally, Ms. Thandal Aung, founder of Myanmar Professional Institute, said, “Investing in peace allows us to cultivate the next generation of leaders and changemakers. As women, it is our responsibility to raise voices of reason and empathy within our communities, advocating for peace.”
The conference participants wrote a peace action plan that day and promised to share their results at next year’s conference. They pledged to continue to expand women’s peace activities and have women leaders from each country play a role in promoting peace in their local communities.
